St. Simons is located in South GA in Glynn County between Savannah and Jacksonville. It is a barrier island, one of the Golden Isles and was called San Simone by 16th-century Spanish explorers. Originally inhabited by the Creek Nation the island was contested by the Spanish, English, and French. There are many historic sites on the island including Bloody Marsh, site of a famous battle, lighthouses, Christ Church and Fort Frederica, where in the 1730’s John Wesley preached the beginnings of the Methodist Church. Today St. Simons is a seaside resort and residential community with a warm climate, beaches, historical sites, shops, restaurants and a natural environment.
